Over few years atrocities against the women are on the rise. Though there are several acts and statutes for prevention these are not implemented strictly.
The main reason for this is the lack of awareness among the people. In order to educate the women regarding various legal provisions for the protection of the women UNMESH conduct various workshops at different places of Puri district and block level officials, lawyers and social activists participated in these programs to motivate the women regarding their rights and duties in case of violation of their rights.
Rural women are being exploited by the money lenders who give credit to women at exploitative terms. Many a time these women are caught in a debt trap and not able to come out of it.
The formal financial institutions are also not coming forward to provide credit as this requires too much paper work, in order to help these women with cheap and hassle free credit SHG models are working wonderfully well. Over the past few years thousands of SHGs are being promoted by a number of agencies. In order to do that UNMESH is organizing training programs for these SHGs for economic sustainability to women.
